Widowhood knows no geography. It is not bound by a (woman’s) place or age. It could happen to any (woman) anywhere at any time under various circumstances. However it is not necessarily the consequence of divorce, nor it is always the result of absence of a male figure. It is not always about money and shelter. It happens when (women) are forced out of presumed societal roles because they no longer fit them. Each and every one of these widows narrates a story which is beyond just the female experience. The story that’s told through the sorrow and agony reflected in their tone and physique. This collection of photos is the story of my encounters with the widowhood in San Francisco.
